The discussion on medical
technology is debatable and each side has their own plausible arguments. As the
result of it, average life expectancy has increased. Although medical
technology breeds some undesirable consequences, but I believe is has given
more positives to society than negatives.
To begin with, few critics
argue that with the increase in the life expectancy age of people at present is
more than at any time in the past. Many countries now have more old age
population, therefore, they will have to increase their budgets for healthcare
and old age pensions. This money will be arranged via taxes and hence, people
will have to bear this over burden of payment.
However, in spite of the argument
above, medical technology has given equal change for everyone to live longer
and healthy life. In the past many sick people died young only, because medical
facilities at those times were unable to treat people well. Chronic deceases
like cancer and AIDS had no treatment in early times. Advancement in medical
technology has given golden chance of living life for cancer and AIDS patients.
Not only this, many premature babies lost their lives after taking birth because
of no advancements in healthcare for new born.
In conclusion, medical
technology might create overpopulation problem in the future, but without it
many people will die young and many children will live without meaningful
family.
